Skating…On The Road And Driveway? Woohoo!

There is an upside to an ice storm.  My boys got to ice skate for the first time in Indiana!  This is me, giving my little guy his very first skating lessons on the road in front of our house.  More lessons

In NO time at all, he was skating like he was born in Alaska.  :)

My older son looked at these pictures, and said, “Hey, he looks like Iron Man!”  Lol!  He does, doesn’t he?  Those yellow dots are actually a couple of sticky backed reflectors I put on his camo coat.  We were on the road, after all.

The next day, we got out some hockey sticks and a ball and played in the driveway.ds4

I think the neighbors thought we were nuts.  :)ds1

One even asked if I’d lost my mind.  Lol!

But OH MY GOODNESS, did we have fun!  You can thank my oldest son for all the pictures.  He didn’t have skates that fit, and was still feeling crummy with the flu.  So he simply popped out for a few minutes here and there with the camera.

Growing up with a farm pond on our property, I spent gobs of time ice skating in the winter.  Sometimes it was just my neighbor friends and me skating for fun.  And sometimes my brother would have a crew of his friends over for some serious hockey matches.

Which I of course was in the thick of.  :)

My boys have always had trouble imagining me as a competitive hockey player.  So it was fun to show them a few things.  Thankfully, I didn’t break anything important in the process…like a hip or leg!  Hee-hee!  It’s amazing how skating comes back to you so easily.

I did learn something, though.  NEVER trust a lawn chair on ice.

Growing up, we always hopped up on the dock to change our skates.  And docks don’t move.

When I went to sit down on my trusty lawn chair, the silly thing went right out from under me!  Of course, there had to be a picture of me on my butt.  :)  Actually, I think he took TEN.  But I’ll spare you!ds8

We had so much fun skating, I actually BOUGHT a garden hose yesterday (ours are frozen stiff) so I could flood a part of our drive again during this cold snap.

If the neighbors thought I was crazy before, I hope they don’t see what I’m about to do!!!

Good Morning Sweetie...
Oh what a beautiful share this morning. I love seeing you ice skating with your son. How sweet it is, and he looks like he has been skating all his life. You may just have the next Wayne Gretzky on your hands. I hope you all have a rink somewhere close, as he is going to be sad once this ice melts and he can't play anymore.

That shot of the chair and you, well we have all been there at some point and time. I love it sweet friend, but I bet you are still feeling it. Hitting that ice hurts, and I am so happy you didn't break anything. My Dad fell on the ice 2 weeks ago and broke his tail bone.

Stay warm and I hope the older one gets rid of that bug soon, so he too can enjoy being out with the rest of the family.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Now THAT is awesome! Did you already have the skates or did you have to slip and slide your way to Wal-*art or something to get some???

Woman!!! you are my hero!-- err, heroess?

Anyway-- that looks like loads of laughs and I admire anyone that can ice skate.

Hope your son recovers quickly. Being sick is NO fun.
