We Finally Settled On A Name!

But it wasn’t easy!! Never have I EVER had such a hard time choosing a puppy name before.  Maybe it’s because this is the first time my boys have been old enough to care!  Lol!

settling in 2For the first few days, I called her Lu Lu.  Lu Lu, come!  Lu Lu, sit! etc.  You HAVE to call her something!  But it was obviously painful for the male members of my household to call her by that name.

Plus, I learned that a neighbor two doors down already had a Lu Lu.  Sigh.  And I was still against the name Ursula.  As one friend pointed out, she would probably grow warts or something!

So we finally settled on Greta Lu.  :) Greta actually means pearl, and fits her just fine.  We tacked Lu onto the end for training continuity purposes.  We’ll probably drop it eventually.

She seems quite happy to be here.Settling in 3

Crate training is going well!  In fact, she loved her new “den” from the minute we introduced it.  She just waltzed on in and plopped herself down for a nap.  And she’s been happy there ever since!

The boys have all been great with her.

But my oldest son has taken on a lot of the responsibility.  Since his bedroom is closest to the garage (where her crate is), he volunteered to get up with her when she needs to go out at night.  He even hooked up a baby monitor so he could hear her better.  Isn’t he wonderful?!!  She isn’t very loud at all when she has to go out.  She just whines a little.  :)

I often find the two of them like this…

settling in

I don’t think we have ever spent so much time just hanging out in the garage before!  Lol!  We plan to make her a mostly outside dog. So we’ve been keeping her out of the house for her own good.

  Garage space

As you can see, though, it’s the perfect place to play with her and teach her new things.  Toss in a few old rugs, a beach chair or two, and a few lawn chair cushions, and the family hang out is complete!

To be on the safe side, we have the rest of the garage gated off.  And when we aren’t right there with her, she is crated.  Crate training is SO important at this stage.  It makes for a happy and contented dog later.

Just as important is getting her socialized with other dogs and people.  So we take her everywhere with us.  Often, in spite of my youngest son’s best efforts, she usually just sleeps the time away.  Oh to be a puppy…sleepy pup

I sure hope you don’t get tired of puppy and soccer pictures.  Because that is pretty much what our life revolves around at the moment.  Usually both at the same time.  :)

Love the name! And she's just so stinking sweet looking in those sleeping pictures! Almost makes me want to get another puppy and do the puppy phase all over again -- almost - our 15 month old dog is still a lot of trouble. But she's an indoor dog -- you're so smart to make yours mostly outdoors!
