He was already dead, or we wouldn’t have braved picking him up.
And for all we know, he could be a she.
Can anyone tell me what he is?

I have him in a peanut butter jar on the porch and I show everyone who stops by. But no one has ever seen such a thing.
I’d also like to know what those tusks in front of his eyes are.
You’ll totally make my day if you can tell me something (anything!!) about him! So far, he’s just a big old mystery.

That's a cool bug! I'll have to show my boys tomorrow. They love to read bug books, so maybe they'll have a clue.
Have you tried googling for him? I think he's a beetle of some sort, and looks like he isn't too far removed from the stink bug group, though I'm pretty sure he is NOT a stink bug.
There are a plethora of REALLY ugly beetles!
In fact - - - no WONDER we don't know right off the top of our heads what kind he is, there are more insects in this world than ANY OTHER type of animal!!!
