Fly, Little Birdie …And Sing!

We’re still new among our church’s fellowship and my boys haven’t made many friends.  Having said that, we go to as many family functions as we can to “break” in.  Lol!

We bribed threatened drug encouraged our boys to participate in the Christmas Program this past week.  Our little guy was supposed to sing Away In The Manger with his class.  There hadn’t been any rehearsals.  The little ones were just going to gather and sing a song at the beginning.

While my reserved husband and grumbling cheerful older boys sat in the back, the little guy and I wandered up towards the front, where the kids seemed to be gathering.

He, of course, was wrapped around my left leg.

I debated my alternatives.

I could shake him loose and run like the wind.  Naah.  Too cold-hearted.

I could stay up front and sing with his class.  That is, if he eased his grip on my leg enough that I could actually move us gracefully over to the group.

But even while I was contemplating the best course of action, he let go.

And took a step away.

With my apron strings hanging strangely free, I grabbed my camera and documented the next amazing turn of events.

Standing on the Fringes

When his class began gathering on the platform to sing,  he looked briefly at me, then wandered hesitantly over to the edge of the ribbon rail.

Then, just like that, he ducted under the ribbon and joined the others.

To Getting In the Thick of Things

Be still my heart!  I was SO proud of him.  :)  After his song, all the  children gathered together and were led in more Christmas Carols and treated to a story.

He didn’t look back once.  But totally, totally immersed himself in the experience.

The only person he looked at (besides the leaders up front) was that tall blond standing on his right.  Whatever she did, he copied exactly.  Lol!Fully Immersed

Only when it was all over, did he look for me with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, and come running with a hug.

My little birdie flew, and sang with all his heart.

Happy sigh.
