A Child’s Take

Our family has been knee-deep in the weeds of political issues for months.  Even our jack-o-lanterns reflected our focus.

Nov4vote-001My boys have a solid handle on the issues we face and are quick to engage their teachers and peers on what’s at stake.

When my oldest son asked if I could find him a t-shirt (supporting his candidate) to wear on election day, I felt proud and encouraged.  Proud that he had educated himself with facts about the candidates.  And Encouraged that he was willing stand publically and defend who he would choose.

We didn’t find a t-shirt.  They were completely sold out.  So last night, he picked a design, and I helped him make his own.  Thankfully, it turned out well.  :)

My little guy asked if I could make him one, too, and I hesitated.  After all, he’s only in second grade.

Still, I asked him why he would vote for his candidate.  “Because he’s wise,”  he said.

Then he paused, looked me in the eye, and said, “I’m glad you didn’t kill me when I was going to be born, Mom.”

I totally underestimated how much he was grasping.

I made him a t'-shirt.

Although I told him to stick to the “He’s wise” reason if anyone asks, I was proud of his heart.

If you haven’t done it yet, go vote, friends.  And encourage everyone you see to do the same.

I voted early.  So today is all about praying for God to be gracious with our country.  And for God to honor the best choice we can make.

Want to join me?

I knew you'd make one if you couldn't find one! Very good job educating your children on our political system and how to inform themselves on the candidates.
I'm praying right along with you.

Yes - I voted. And it's encouraging to hear of kids being raised the way yours are!
