Beautiful Cardinals, Why Do You Hate Me?

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you might remember that we have cardinals which go thump in the night.  Well, usually not the night.  But beginning at the first light of dawn, anyway.

My husband has gotten tough with a few.  But each time he has scattered their feathers, another has come to take their place.

She's Back 1

This beautiful wacky cardinal is the latest model of my alarm clock.  She begins thumping my bedroom window at 5:30 in the morning.  She has no snooze, no volume control, and no appreciation for Saturday mornings.

She's back 2

By ten each day, she moves to the picture window by my desk.  Where she continues  her thumping at 4 second intervals for the rest of the day.  The rest of the day.

She's back 3I don’t know what’s wrong with my cats.  I have three of them.  Lazy beasts, they are.  They pay her no mind.  Perhaps I feed them too much.

It’s not that she’s not a beautiful bird.  She is.  It’s just that month after month of birds flying into my window is sending me over the deep end.

Sometimes I can almost let the pounding sink into the background and forget there’s a bird out there.

Always there.

But like the gloobyglop in a lava lamp, the thumping always rises to the surface again to stop me mid sentence with nothing but air for a thought.

Even when she pauses, she’s still there.   Always there.  Like she’s afraid if she flies away, the window will disappear.

She's back 6

Why, little birdie, do you hate me?  Why?  Don’t you ever eat?  Or travel?  You need to get out more.  You need to get out and explore the neighborhood.

I assure you there are more classy windows than these.  Windows behind which nice little old people watch their empty bird feeders full of seeds.  Waiting for YOU.

Won’t you please, PLEASE take your beautiful batty self and go beat against someone ELSE’S window.  Pretty please?

She's back 5

I’m not sure how much more of this I can take before I pick the lock on my husband’s gun safe.  And the world’s not ready for that.

So funny! Heres a thought - industrial double sided tape. They could only thump once....

Lol! Sierra, I love it!

Did it with a mouse once, though. NOT pretty. My guilt over sticking it kicked in and I tried to rescue it.

Did you know you can’t rescue a mouse from a sticky trap? It's gruesome.

Wow...she really wants to get in!

My husband swears that if you put something on the window that would alert them that it IS a window they'd quit. I don't know if that's true but it seems like it's worth the cost of a roll of masking tape to find out. :)

Birds FREAK me out anyway. That would send me into the nut house for sure.

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.

I think you have a certifiable cardinal there. Just think how small she must think the world is...

Crazy bird! I think it would have already met its maker if it were my window!

wow, I have heard of birds running into a window, but nothing like you have experienced! sure is a pretty bird though. :)

i don't believe you would have a heart to shoot it, though.

Maybe she thinks there is another bird in there?

Have you tried hanging one of those sun thingees that lets the bird know it is a window. It is supposed to help, though many a bird killed itself on my grandmother's large living room windows, despite it.

Oh, so pretty. I wonder what appeals to her so much about that door!

That is so weird that it doesn't catch on! Great shots.

This post is just too darn cute. I don't exactly know why, but that bird had me laughing (sorry!) and I cracked up at the part about your cats. My daughter is such an animal nut; she would LOVE to have a bird thumping on our window all day! lol :)

That's so weird! It made me laugh, but it has to be so annoying!

I hope it stops soon.

Yeah, me thinks I would be getting more than a little tired of it too. Is the window reflective? I mean there has to be areason the thumping continues.

This made me laugh -- but I would not be laughing if I were awakened this way each morning! Great pictures, though.

Come on over for some mom encouragement and inspiration!

Oh my....well your post is funny, but I am sure it is driving you crazy!!!
Do you think it's time to buy a BB gun for your boys and let them practice a little near the bird??? :)
