Today at the salon, my kids set up their portable DVD player and proceeded to watch Star Wars.
With their headsets all in place, you wouldn’t have known they were sequestered out there just below the peek through window in the little 4 by 8 waiting area.
Although I had my head under the dryer at the time, I heard bits and pieces of the conversation that floated around the salon. Clients would come past the boys and through the door commenting on how well-behaved those kids were out there.
I pretended not to hear. And kept my eyes on my book. But I was smiling inside.
And praying the movie outlasted my perm!
As my hairdresser was removing my cape, she said the nicest thing to the next hairdresser over. “I think she should win the award of the century for the best behaved kids—EVER!”
I thanked them and proceeded to gather up my things and write the check.
Wouldn’t that be a neat award to hang on my wall??
I was signing my name as the movie ended, and my angelic boys began shaking off their wings. Like an executive ditching his tie in the car after work.
Quietly, at first, they began arguing over who should have to wind up cords and carry headphones, and put back the pillows, etc. But, in seconds their hushed threats picked up speed and ferocity until it was obvious a storm was brewing.
I barely had them herded out the door when poison tipped verbal assaults started sailing like darts at each other.
And I thought…Can I still keep my award?

Kids will get you every time!
Oh, this was a GOOD ONE!!!!
Too bad the perm didn't end about five minutse sooner!!!
:-)
Sure you can keep it. They did what you wanted them to do at the hairdresser, I think they did good.
Oh I love it! It's funny though, we get comments all the time about how well behaved our kids are. And I admit they are very well behaved but it makes me wonder how out of the ordinary that must be for people to actually comment about it, huh?
Not to say they don't show some true colors sometimes. I didn't say they were perfect! LOL.
Hugs.

Hey there!!
Just checkin'in to see how you were handling business over there... since you didnt make it to TN this week. ;)
This was a cute post and a great title. :) It does the heart good to hear nice things about our children, huh?
I love it!! And can so relate!!! I used to thank people and feel smug about my parenting abilities when people would compliment my kids' behavior, but now, I say to them "Don't hang around too long, because it won't last!"
But I am glad yours lasted long enough for you to get through your perm, that is a huge accomplishment and success!
